Trace the landscape with your eyes. Record it with your full senses. This is a formal and informal approach using acrylic paint and mixed media. A combination of intuitive ‘felt’ experiences based on ‘reading’ and feeling the landscape combined with some more formally based exercises.
A perfect balance of left and right brain approaches. Whatever approach you prefer it is often a mix of the two. Intuition is key, along with guided instruction.
Catherine Parker is a painter / mixed media artist based in Toowoomba, Queensland. Catherine has a 30 year art practise and is passionate about teaching and facilitating higher learning. She has taught workshops across a broad range of ages – from secondary schools to McGregor Summer Schools at The University of Southern Qld, Flying Arts Inc. just to name a few.
Catherine leads twice yearly Sketchbook Art Tours to India. She is celebrating her 10 year anniversary this year.
Her work is held in various public and corporate collections including: RMIT (Melbourne), QUT Art Museum, Brisbane, Southern Cross University NSW, State Library of Victoria (Melbourne), Baillieu Library (Melbourne), Mater Hospital (Brisbane + Springfield), Lady Cilento Children’s Hospital (Brisbane); Hummingbird House (part of Lady Cilento Children’s Hospital Brisbane), Toowoomba Regional Art Gallery and Gadens Lawyers (Brisbane)
An avid, curious traveller, she seeks respite in makeshift studios, sometimes with portable sketch book involving 'on the road' works.
A frequent traveller to India and Magnetic Island, North Queensland, Australia, her works combine elements of the two continents; a metaphysical interest in nature and spiritual systems.
